RUAHA NATIONAL PARK

HIGHLIGHTS

2nd largest national park in tanzania

A paradise for bird enthusiasts

The highest concentration of elephants in East Africa

BEST TIME TO GO

From June to October comes the dry season and it is the prime time for spotting wildlife in the park. At this time, animals are easier to spot because the bush thins out and wildlife concentrates around water sources.

BEST WEATHER

The best weather for safari is during the dry season,  from June to October, when the sun shines all day, rain is rare, and the weather is cooler and less humid

WORST WEATHER

The wet season (March and April) is not always ideal for outdoor activities as the roads become impassable, hot, steamy and damp weather, plus many accommodations are closed

BEST TIME

Like other parks across Tanzania, the best time to visit Ruaha is from June to October (dry season). You could also visit from January to February, though you may have to deal with short rains

HIGH SEASON

Ruaha’s high season falls between June and October. The park is quite popular but because it is so far away from the northern region, not many travelers are often willing to make the trip

LOW SEASON

The rainy season (March to May) makes up the low season in Ruaha. Still, the lush vegetation and lowered park fees could be enough reason to visit during this period

ABOUT RUAHA

Nestled in the middle of Tanzania about 130 km from Iringa, Ruaha National Park is the largest national park in Tanzania. Covering an area of about 130,000 sq km, Ruaha National Park is part of a more extensive ecosystem that includes Usangu Game Reserve, Rungwa Game Reserve, and several other protected areas.

The name Ruaha comes from the Great Ruaha River which flows along its southeastern margin, and it is the primary focus for game-viewing. With over 571 bird species, Ruaha National Park is one of Tanzania’s bird paradise and some of them are known to be migrants within and outside Africa. Ruaha National Park is believed to have the highest concentration of elephants than any other national park in East Africa, and it is also a place where magnificent mammals like kudu, sable, and Roan antelopes can easily be spotted. Ruaha is also a habitat for endangered wild dogs and other animals in the park include lions, cheetah, leopards, giraffes, zebras, elands, impala, and jackals.
